New codes are effective Oct. 1, 2021.
Highly anticipated, the fiscal year 2022 ICD-10-CM codes have been released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), although still pending are the 2022 Official Coding and Reporting Guidelines which were not included in the package of new codes.
We are still waiting for the release of the 2022 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) Final Rule in early August 2021. The CDC release on Wednesday contains 159 new codes, along with the Tabular and Index Addenda. The following is a synopsis of the new codes by chapter.

Cal Health and Safety 1418.8 - New Rules July 1, 2021
HSC section 1418.8 authorizes an IDT at a SNF or ICF to make treatment decisions for residents when a physician determines the resident is unable to provide informed consent for a proposed treatment intervention because they cannot articulate a decision or cannot understand the risks or benefits of a proposed intervention and where the resident has no health care decision maker to consent to the proposed intervention.
